Look to the Skies: Finding Inspiration in My New Watercolor Bird Series

Look to the Skies: Finding Inspiration in My New Watercolor Bird Series It started with a standoff. My husband was walking through the backyard one ordinary morning when a mother robin decided he had come close enough. She planted herself between him and her nest and chirped with a fury completely disproportionate to her size. Every time he took a step forward she chirped louder. He retreated. She won. He came inside laughing, and I went straight to my studio. That's how this collection began — not with a grand artistic vision, but with a four-ounce bird who had no idea she was outmatched and didn't care. Ten birds, ten different personalities: a robin who holds her ground, two scarlet tanagers loyal on the same branch, an elegant blue jay who's never doubted his place in the world, a small fluffy blue bird with complaints and the morning to air them, an indigo bunting who sings without waiting for the right moment, a goldfinch as certain as a single clear note, two woodpeckers who show up and do the work, and two green parrots who finally just lean into each other and stay.📓 JOURNAL PROMPT FROM THIS EPISODE: What small moment of nature or unexpected backyard laughter has brought me the most comfort lately? Include the sound of the chirping. Include your husband retreating across the yard. Those small moments are worth keeping. If this brought a little birdsong into your morning, subscribe to join our community of slow, intentional storytelling.
